CHARACTER REPORT:
Character traits that BES is enforcing each month have been presented
on KVSV radio by students, so the community is aware of the traits being
emphasized. Students have been
excited to participate and have done an excellent job so far.
PASTRIES FOR PARENTS:
Pastries for Parents has begun with BES classes.
Parents have been invited to have juice and a roll with their child and
the classroom teacher. This has been
well received and will continue through February.
OPEN BOARD MEETING REPORT:
A representative from the Kansas Association of School Boards
presented to staff and parents on January 16th, as to what comprised
a suitable education for students.
He went over information in various studies done and where Kansas falls.
We are in the top 10 in most categories but not with funding.
Questions asked included what programs should be reduced or eliminated
while still providing a suitable education, and how to increase funding for
schools. Those in attendance had an
opportunity to break into small groups and discuss their ideas to help solve the
problem. Specifics on funding and
expenditures were also provided to give everyone an idea of where our district
stands on the present budget.
Several expressed disappointment at the low attendance for this informative
presentation. Those that did attend
felt it was very informative and helpful in their understanding of the problems
that schools are facing.
MR. MARSHALL’S REPORT:
Mr. Marshall presented some options for the printing of the yearbook,
including exploring a new company.
Discussions included various items such as price of each yearbook, black and
white vs. color copies, or personalization of yearbooks.
Consideration is being given as so the majority of students and parents
may enjoy them at a reasonable price.
After discussion, it was decided to stay with the present company.
COMMUNITY CONTACTS:
Positive comments have been heard about the Pastries for Parents.
Parents have enjoyed the time at school with their child, other parents,
and classroom teachers in an informal setting.
The meeting adjourned at 4:40 p.m.
The next meeting will be Monday, February 27th, at 4:00 p.m.
