As much as possible, information resources for students will be reviewed and evaluated by
staff prior to use. Students, however, may be able to move beyond those resources to
others, which have not been evaluated. Individual students accessing inappropriate
informational materials will be held accountable and use will be monitored by electronic
and other means. Nevertheless, staff members are not expected to monitor student use at
every moment.
All students will be informed by staff of their rights and responsibilities as users of
the district network and the Internet before gaining access either as an individual user
or as a member of a class or group. Elementary students will not be assigned their own
access code.
Student Responsibilities:
When using the network or the Internet:
I will demonstrate appropriate behavior.
I will be courteous to others on the network and on the Internet.
I will use the equipment with care.
I will use only software, which my teacher has assigned to me.
I will connect only to Internet sites, which have been allowed by the teacher.
I will sign in on the appropriate register or log each time I use the network or
Internet.
I understand that I am not allowed to change any setting on a computer.

computers or network.
I will follow the copyright laws, which protect programs, data, books, and pictures.

I will help keep computer areas clean and orderly by returning software and materials to
their proper place.
I will have a teacher's permission before using the Internet, computer, or network.
I will not give full names, addresses or phone numbers on the Internet.
I will recognize other people's right to use the equipment. I will not play games or use
equipment for non-academic activities when other users require the system for academic
purposes.
The use of the Internet and electronic
services is a PRIVILEGE, not a right, and inappropriate use may result in a
cancellation of those privileges. Violations of these network policies will result in, but
is not limited to, loss of computer privileges or other actions, which the administration
deems appropriate.
Parent Responsibilities :
Parents and guardians of minors are responsible for setting and conveying the standards
that their children should follow when using media and information sources. Therefore, we
support and respect each family's right to decide whether or not to approve of their child
having access specifically to the Internet.
Parents are responsible for supervision of Internet use when a student works with the
Internet at home to complete specific assignments by a teacher.
Teacher Responsibilities:
Teachers are obligated to directly supervise students with the class Internet account
according to this Acceptable Use Policy.
The teacher is required to maintain confidentiality with the passwords.
A sponsoring teacher will see that students receive instruction on the acceptable use of
technology resources, including the Internet.
The teacher will maintain a log or registry of Internet use by individual students as part
of the monitoring system.
The teacher will notify parents ahead of time when any child's photograph may appear on
Beloit Elementary School's web site, even though previous permission has been given to use
photographs.
